Don’t call them Creed: People used to compare Burleson to Eddie Vedder and other angered baritones, Burleson says, “but I’ve definitely been trying to get away from the whole vocal grunge style.”
Triple shot: Because their big rock sound is a little much for small bars, the threesome started playing acoustically in order to get more gigs. They can be found playing around Virginia about once a week as The Tragic Thieves. And two bands weren’t enough for singer Burleson. He also plays solo Tuesday nights at Star Lite.
Stop, thief: They call their acoustic side project The Tragic Thieves because they play about 80 percent cover songs — Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, Mazzy Star, Radiohead and John Denver (huh?). Now they’ve added acoustic versions of Ki:Theory songs, too. The Thieves have stolen the spotlight lately; they play more than Ki:Theory. You can catch them once a month at Easy Street.
Signature lyrics: “Break of dawn she leaves and I swear to God above / I won’t walk the streets tonight in an aimless search of love.” — “Morning Light,” the band’s first single, which got radio play across the mid-Atlantic in 2000.
Hear it: The band’s CD release show for “The Mantic Method” takes place June 21 at Alley Katz.
Other local headbangers: Game Show Hero, Seth.
