Who’s who: The clean-cut, khaki-clad crew look more Abercrombe than rock ’n’ roll, especially wearing baseball hats. Thred’s made up of Trip Stakem (guitar), Ben Woosley (guitar), Matt Hulcher (bass), Marshall Norton (keyboard) and Micah Berry (drummer). All five sing.
Secret weapon: Though he’s hidden behind the drum kit for most of the night, when Berry steps forward and grabs a guitar the band is at its strongest. His voice, both delicate and strong, coupled with his confident phrasing and sweet but not sappy lyrics make for quite a beautiful mix.
Signature lyrics: “It’s been a long time coming so don’t put up a fight / And just tell me you love me tonight” — Berry’s “Traveling Song.”
From the ashes: The members got together after their previous bands — Beaver Traffic Jam, Newman and Cosmos Mariner — disbanded. This time they’re more focused on a tight sound, Stakem says. “That’s going to be the difference from just playing around Richmond or trying to be a little bigger than that.”
