Oakland’s Shannon and the Clams are known as a garage group that mixes elements of doo-wop, R&B, punk and surf – the kind of band that might show up in a John Waters movie. He told Style he loves them. The band’s latest, “Onion,” produced by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys, is more polished but once again it’s driven by the raw, heart-on-her-sleeve vocals of bassist and lead singer Shannon Shaw, who more than delivers in the live setting.
