PICK: Fred Armisen and Def Rain at the National, Friday, June 10

"SNL" veteran bringing his "Comedy for Musicians but Everyone is Welcome" tour.

If you’re a fan of “Saturday Night Live” or “Portlandia,” you undoubtedly recognize the kinetic comedic energy of Fred Armisen, a former indie rock drummer for the Chicago rock band Trenchmouth who became famous for his sketch comedy.

Armisen is a born performer, and has even played drums in the Blue Man Group, as well as having won two Peabody awards at “SNL,” a Grammy for best comedy album for “Standup Drummers,” and been nominated for Emmys for his television comedy work. He’ll be bringing his live show, “Comedy for Musicians but Everyone is Welcome” to the National on Friday, and who knows what to expect? Probably a little standup, a little sketch comedy, a little music, or some unholy mash of all three. He’s been touring this show for awhile, so he should have it down.

The night begins with the spacey, shoegaze musical act Def Rain from North Texas. Doors at 7 p.m. show at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 to $30.
