Richmond Police Officers’ haven’t received pay increases since 2009. If Mayor Dwight Jones facial expression when the issue came up this week is any indication, that might not be changing any time soon.
Jones’ new chief, Al Durham, addressed the subject when his promotion was announced Monday at a City Hall press conference.
“The mayor has made a commitment that he wants the men and women of the Richmond Police Department to have a pay raise,” he said. “So we are working closely on that to see what we can do as soon as possible.”
Jones, standing behind Durham, looked less confident. The mayor’s office later told WTVR, the station that captured the above video, that he is committed to finding the money but the budget process is “still very fluid.”
