A few parents for missing the point.
You see, when the D.C.-area sniper came dangerously close to Richmond, school was closed for a reason. It wasn’t the best day for children to frolic around town, hang out at the mall or run errands with you. Now that we think of it, perhaps staying in school would have been safer.
And how about Martin Luther King Jr. Day? Granted, there were parents who excused their children from Chesterfield County schools to talk with them about civil-rights issues, to share reading on the subject or to attend related services and rallies. Unfortunately, some kids returned to class with new haircuts, bragged about their trips to the toy store or chatted about the prior day’s TV shows.
A lot can happen — or not — on days off.
