Mr. Wine is clearly in the wrong and his attitude toward the matter does nothing to help his case (“Toll Runner Hit With Fine: 2,020 Quarters,” Street Talk, Jan. 2). Running the toll once would have been an oversight, excusable in my opinion. However, he ran the tolls at least 20 times. Surely after the first night he could have remembered to bring some change along. And then he goes on to ignore notices sent to him and complains that he couldn’t find a number to call.
If he’s bright enough to teach “muscular skeletal anatomy,” I’d hope he’s bright enough to use easily accessible resources (Internet, phone, phone book) to find the elusive number. He’s at fault and he owes the $505. He knew what he was doing was wrong and yet continued to do it. I have no sympathy!

I can’t believe you actually ran the story, but since you did, maybe Mr. Wine, who is quoted as saying, “I teach muscular skeletal anatomy and at least I’m smart enough to know when there’s bullshit,” would be smart enough to get a Smart Tag from VDOT and not run the toll.

There was a young man who lived in Churchill
Was so self-important, made the rest of us ill.
He ran through the toll booths with many a smirk
Thought not paying the toll was one of life’s perks
For someone as special as he …
After appearing on camera after many a dash
And a letter of warning about unpaid cash
He was shocked to discover he’d finally been busted.
“Injustice!” he railed, this fine must be adjusted
For someone as special as I …
So while Victor bemoans the unfairness of Fate
Some of us chuckle; the fine should be double
For someone as special as he!
