Off the Rack: The Blue Box is Back

Richmond’s answer to Tiffany’s blue box is back up to speed.

New owners took over all three of Richmond’s Schwarzschild Jewelers locations last month. Aside from a more hands-on attitude toward customer service, a spokesperson for the new owner says, they’re hoping for a seamless transition.

The Schiffman family, which owns North Carolina’s oldest jewelry company, acquired Schwarzschild earlier this year after the jeweler’s former parent company declared bankruptcy. The Schiffmans plan to maintain many of the lines Richmonders are accustomed to finding — Mikimoto pearls, David Yurman fashion jewelry. They’ll also bring back some old favorites such as Waterford crystal.

The spokeswoman says Schwarzschild will also remain philanthropically active with the Richmond Ballet, Faison School, Theater IV, the Massey Cancer Center and other community organizations the company supported in the past.
