New York artist Cat Chow recently rolled into Richmond for a May show at Quirk Gallery. Her famous dresses cut classic silhouettes from everyday materials. The show runs through June 24, but we made it to the opening.
Chow touches up some of her newer, more conceptual work. Instead of making clothes from objects, she’s making objects from clothes. This record is made out of belts.
Chow wove tape measures together and stitched them down meticulously, keeping all the numbers aligned. She says the dress refers to how people see themselves “measuring up” in society.
