NrG Krysys at Lulu’s

Friday, Oct. 24

I have little respect for cover and tribute bands. Like DJs, they forsake their own creativity to leech off someone else’s, which in my book is a big artistic no-no. Richmond’s NrG Krysys is different. I recall giving grief to original member, the late Bryan Harvey, about the band when it started. He just looked at me after I ranted passionately for a few minutes and said with a laugh, “What do you have against making people happy?” Though Harvey sadly no longer is with us, all these years later, that’s what NrG Krysys is and will always be about: making people happy. In fact, it’s the only thing the group takes seriously. With a stellar line-up featuring some of Richmond’s finest party-enabling musicians, its once-in-a-blue-moon performances of funky hits from the 1970s and beyond are always big fun. It cranks out the oldies Friday, Oct. 24, at Lulu’s. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. Admission is $10. lulusrichmond.com.
