NRBQ with Travis Meadows at the Capital Ale House

Friday, Feb. 23

The New Rhythm and Blues Quartet has earned a reputation as a consummate live band since its inception in 1966. Today it features only one original member, funky pianist Terry Adams, but the young players who join him are equally musically adventurous. They expertly juggle genres from country, folk, jazz and R&B, with loving odes to Sun Ra and Thelonious Monk as part of their DNA, while keeping things light-hearted and danceable. Fans include names like Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Keith Richards and the Replacements, so you could say the band has a legacy to live up to — and usually it does. Tonight they’ll be joined by one of the most honest country music songwriters in Nashville, Travis Meadows. Show at 8 p.m. $25-$30.
