New Gallery Planned for Broad

Emerson worked as an administrator at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Anderson Gallery for 10 years. She left to focus on designing and making her own jewelry. She became manager of the Farmers’ Market in 1998 and left last year to become managing partner in the cafe at Plant Zero.

“It’s like I’m a schizophrenic,” Emerson says, joking. But she points out the art elements in all her projects — even the cafe. “Because food is art as well,” she says.

Emerson says she’ll run the gallery with “a few” silent partners. She’s quiet about other details too. As for Quirk’s first exhibit, she says: “It’s really cool — but I can’t tell you what it is yet.” — Jason Roop
