Negative Gemini and Mirror Kisses at Bandito’s Burrito Lounge

Sunday, Feb. 23. 9 p.m.

Negative Gemini’s dance floor is filled with dread. Bummed out but in need of sex, the solo project of Lindsey French imparts its foreboding whispers with the emotional evasiveness that the Cocteau Twins learned from listening to Nico’s “Cheslea Girl.” The chilled goth shoe gazes she creates are like blurry photographs — they cause your ears to squint. Harrisonburg’s Mirror Kisses are less impressionistic in their post-millennium tension. The duo’s music is pure synth pop in the vein of early Simple Minds and China Crisis. For all their retro, keyboard inclinations, the two manage to make the old sound new again on their album, “Heartbeats” — maybe even better. Negative Gemini and Mirror Kisses resurrect the ’80s on Sunday, Feb. 23, at Bandito’s. Doors open at 9 p.m. Free. banditosburritolounge.com.
