Need to look bloody for Halloween and haven’t yet gotten around to starting your own “Fight Club?” Try these tricks from local makeup artist Sharon Spradlin-Barrett.

1 tablespoon corn syrup
a few drops of red food coloring

Mix ingredients in a small cup and apply with an eyedropper to get a “dripping” effect. Spradlin-Barrett says this substance is just like professional-quality stage blood except for the “zesty mint” flavor added for actors who have to break open blood capsules in their mouths.

Peeled grapes swimming around in corn syrup blood will look remarkably like a bowl of bloody eyeballs. “It’s gross, but fun,” says Spradlin-Barrett.

The only drawback? Bugs love it. When an actor friend of hers was filming “Children of the Corn,” Spradlin-Barrett recounts, he was drenched with the stuff. “He went to get lunch in the catering tent, way out in a field somewhere, and he was covered with flies,” she says.

Scars

3-4 tablespoons of peanut butter
1 tablespoon of honey
flour as needed (at least a few teaspoons)

Mix peanut butter and honey with a spoon. Add flour until the mixture is too thick to stir with a spoon, then work with your fingers to get a Play-Doh consistency. Stick it onto your skin, and shape into scars and other gross wounds. Warns Spradlin-Barrett: “It never gets hard, but you can rub it off accidentally. … The blood and the scars always stay sticky.
