In the mid-’80s, after achieving substantial success with a wave of hits and collecting a gang of Grammys, Natalie Cole left behind disco and drugs and emerged as a pop artist. The daughter of late balladeer Nat King Cole, she finally embraced her legacy in 1991 with “Unforgettable: With Love,” an album of her father’s songs anchored by a posthumous duet. It sold more than 5 million copies, won Cole several more Grammys and sparked a somewhat spooky genre of pop music. Her recent career moves have been somewhat predictable — an album of pop rehashes and loaning her hit “Everlasting” to eHarmony.com. The former can be forgiven.
