Every scene needs a godmother, and for certain Richmond rock deviants that presence for more than 20 years has been Stacy Prescott. Today she battles brain cancer without health insurance (she recently had a tumor removed), and like any community worth its salt, her old musical friends are pulling together to help a sister out. The big-font news is the reunion of '80s drunk-rock outfit Mudd HelmA¬t featuring twangbilly cult figure Wes Freed (artist for Drive By Truckers and NASCAR) on vocals, Dan-O Deckelman on guitar, bassist Ben Lawes (Dickie Disgusting and the Blindboys) and Scott Schuppert on drums, plus an unholy slew of other local punk-rock luminaries. Once known for loud shows with female audiences clad only in underwear, Mudd HelmA¬t makes perfect sense during this sweltering Richmond summer, performing at the Playing Field on Saturday, July 31, at 4 p.m. $10.
