Most Likely to Make You Laugh

Richmond’s stand-up comedy scene is beefing up. We asked local comedian Kenny Wingle to point us toward three rising stars. He’s in a position to know. The laid-back charmer produced Richmond’s first Comedy Festival, F*Bomb, which brought in the likes of Whitney Cummings and Doug Stanhope. He’s also served as host of the Buckin’ Comedy Throwdown four years running, with stops at the Tobacco Company, Hat Factory and most recently KennTico Cuban Bar and Grill — the third Thursday of every month. Keep watch for his next venture, Richmond Gets Roasted, which will, ahem, honor local celebs and socialites, among others.

1. Micah “Bam-Bamm” White

Having worked with Bernie Mac, Daniel Tosh and D.L. Hughley, White’s endless energy allows him to entertain any crowd, anywhere. He’s host of the main show during Haha’s at the Hipp(odrome) every Thursday night at 7. And he’s finalizing a contract that will land his “Micah White Show” on a major cable network later this year. Keep up with this comedy beast at

2. Jason Klingman

No, he isn’t a Star Trek character. Yes, he’s becoming a comedy enterprise. Taking on such topics as personalized license plates, grocery store scooters and NASCAR fashion, he keeps it relatable and brings it all together for hilarity at its finest. Klingman is the King of Comedy in the Tri-Cities. He’s an original BCT Squad member that plays host to shows at Wabi Sabi in Petersburg (first and third Fridays), Brass Monkeys in Chester and Live at CIR in Colonial Heights. Catch him at Wabi Sabi on June 7 and 21 at 9 p.m.

3. Corey Marshall

“Madman” was our Readers’ Choice winner for Best Local Comedian in 2012. A refreshing comic, who prefers a tall glass of milk over a stiff drink, will leave you laughtose tolerant. Gifted with a smooth delivery and Cosby-like mind, his comedy stylings will do your body good. He’s co-host of the Haha’s at the Hipp show every Thursday. Next up on the list of comedians he’s worked with is “Last Comic Standing” winner John Heffron. Catch them at the Funny Bone from May 30-June 2.
