Mikaela Davis at the Camel

Monday, Jan. 13. 8 p.m.

Mikaela Davis, the harpist, singer and songwriter from Rochester, N.Y., makes vaguely hipster harp music. I say vaguely because the former harpist for the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra has more than a little “twerk” in her step. From the opening pep of “I Wouldn’t” to the flowing Stevie Nicks introspection of “Fortune Teller,” Davis’ music is defined by its mainstream inclinations. Surprisingly, the end result manages to make accessible music that isn’t dumbed down. If I had to listen to her wispy reflections with frequency, I might have to kill her. But in small doses, Davis and her resonating strings are pleasant. Mikaela Davis plays Monday, Jan. 13, at the Camel. Doors open at 8 p.m. Admission is $8 in advance and $10 at the door. thecamel.org.
