Meet Maymont’s New Baby Goats

And they're named after flowers in bloom this spring.

Oh good gracious, who doesn’t love a stubborn little baby goat?

Just in time for spring break, Maymont is welcoming five baby goats and three, just-hatched Brahma chicks to Maymont Farm.

Even without a team of crack reporters, Style Weekly has already learned their names, which were based not on Garbage Pail Kids or other demonic forces, but on lovely spring flowers in bloom this time of year. The gray female is known as Blue (for Bluebell); the white female is Daisy; the black-and-white male with a triangle on his forehead, well that’s PawPaw; the black-and-white male with a solid black forehead would be Indie (Indigo); and finally, the black-and-tan male has the studly name of Turk (for the Turk’s cap lily).

“The baby animals help teach young guests about the life cycle of domestic farm animals, and delight everyone with their antics!” says Melissa Abernathy, communications manager for the Maymont Foundation, via email.

The new little ones should be at Maymont around April 3-7, which should be a great time to visit with family and loved ones and enjoy the 100-acre landscape in “nearly peak bloom.”

Maymont grounds are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, free of charge, with a $5 suggested donation. Also, there’s a bonus, according to a press release: “From April 3 – 7, Maymont Mansion and The Robins Nature Center are open extra days, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., just for Spring Break week. They return to normal Friday/Saturday/Sunday operations after this week.”

The Dominion Energy Family Easter will be held on Saturday, April 8, where the baby goats will join a few of their other “Farm Friends” on the Maymont Mansion lawn, “along with a ton of games, live entertainment, and a Community Zone filled with local heroes and helpers, not to mention a meet-and-greet with the Easter Bunny,” per the release.
