McDonnell Living with Priest in Richmond

The priest who has accompanied former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell during his trial on federal corruption charges is also offering his church as a crash pad.

McDonnell testified today that he is living with the Rev. Wayne Ball at the rectory of St. Patrick Catholic Church on 25th Street in Richmond, where Ball is pastor. Ball is also pastor at St. John’s Catholic Church in Highland Springs.

Ball has blogged throughout the trial, but only today referenced it directly. He appears to defend McDonnell’s testimony, which has featured many scenes of a struggling marriage.

“When you charge a married couple, especially a couple with a long marriage, and either of them dares to testify it would be impossible for them to tell ‘the whole truth’ and not talk about the marriage,” Ball writes.

Ball has not responded to requests for comment.
