There was a lot of snickering that both teams in Sunday’s Super Bowl came from states that recently legalized marijuana — Washington and Colorado.
So when a Republican state senator took to the floor last week to invite his colleagues to a Super Bowl party, perhaps it wasn’t surprising that a Democrat used the opportunity to broach the subject.
“Mr. President, on a slightly lighter note, I listen with interest to the personal privilege by the senior senator from Virginia Beach,” Fairfax Sen. Dick Saslaw said. “And I was wondering if he would want to comment on the fact that both Denver and Seattle come from the only two states that have legalized marijuana, and would that — if we did that in Virginia — fix the Redskins’ problems?”
Sen. Frank Wagner, a Virginia Beach Republican, responded with laughter: “I don’t think there’s enough drugs in the world to fix that problem.”
