Keep Your Eye On the Ballpark

The present ballpark proposal depends on public subsidy by diverting local taxes to pay off its debts (“Building a Village,” News & Features, Feb. 16). Taxes are public money. And those taxes forgone by the city would have to be made up by all other existing businesses, residents and visitors.

How much longer will City Council allow itself to be bullied into subsidizing new grandiose developments, bringing extra costs and unfair competition down upon existing business firms, restaurants and shops — and driving the marginal out of town or to close?
