One great thing about James Murphy is that he makes dance music with lyrics that don't require a lobotomy. Sure he incorporates his hipster record credentials by ripping off his influences (Eno, Bowie, Can) and making them modern — but the guy is a talented producer and witty lyricist. Who else writes a party-stomp anthem like “Drunk Girls” with lyrics such as “Drunk girls know that love is an astronaut, it comes back but it's never the same.” Since releasing “Losing My Edge,” Murphy has been a consistent favorite with critics and something of an arbitrator of coolness of the Williamsburg-Brooklyn variety. He also said that LCD's latest album, “This Is Happening,” will probably be the last from the group because he's tired of touring and has other projects to pursue. So don't miss your chance to experience the bratty zeitgeist with openers Sleigh Bells, who have been turning heads for a couple of years now with their own abrasive noise disco, when they play the Charlottesville Pavilion on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. $37.
