Last Minute Gifts for Beer Lovers

Some quick and easy last-minute gifts from local breweries.

It’s getting down to crunch time for a lot of us last-minute gift givers, and if you’re stumped as to what to get a beer lover in your life, then behold–these easy gifts to get before it’s too late, ranging from not-too expensive to um, a bit higher in price.

If you have that hops enthusiast who regularly heads to their favorite local brewery, then the perfect gift for them is beer gear or swag. Also, please pass these along to my family for hints.

From Ardent Craft Ales I’m a sucker for their gray pullover hoodie ($40) because it looks so damn soft and cozy. Another option is their IPA X T-shirt in red ($25) or their baseball tee ($25) is great to wear at the next Squirrels game.

For stocking stuffers, you can’t go wrong with their black or red can Koozie ($4) or their stickers or buttons ($1). Ardent even has a plush dog toy ($15) for your cool pup to bring along on their next visit to the beer garden.

For those looking for something different, Strangeways Brewing has a list of oddities that include growler carrying bags in red or black ($1.99-$3.99), logo patches to put on jackets, jeans or backpacks ($4.99) or a collectors pack ($11.99) that includes bottle caps, coasters, assorted beer labels, stickers and a Can-Able label signed by the head brewer. Also for you and your pup, they have a frisbee ($17.99) in blue with the Strangeways logo.

At Starr Hill Brewery, (with six locations in the state), they have a nice selection of Pride T-shirts and tank tops, ranging in price from $20 to $25. My favorite is their T-shirt with the diamond logo ($20) available in three colors. Starr Hill also has a nice looking pullover hoodie available in two different shades of gray, both have just the Starr Logo surrounded by a circle.

If you have a seasoned beer lover on the list who loves experimenting with different styles of beer, which is a feat unto itself, then head to Bottleworks in Bon Air and have the experts help you select unique beers from all over the state (and sometimes beyond). Bottleworks also has a rotating list of beer on tap available for growlers or crowlers, so you don’t have to show up empty handed when you drop off gifts.

Lastly, for a really special experience and perhaps an early Valentine’s Day gift, book a cottage and enjoy a weekend away at Fine Creek Brewing in Powhattan. This secluded spot has 13 cottages, ranging from one to three bedrooms, that all overlook a beautiful courtyard and are just a short stroll to their brewery. Prices vary depending on the time of year and if there’s a wedding already booked at nearby Mill at Fine Creek.

The brewery itself is an amazing spot that has an indoor/outdoor fireplace and a food menu of seasonal, homemade dishes and snacks that pair wonderfully with their beers. The place also has a really cute shop separate from the brewery that sells homemade pastries, jams and wine. The shop also provides cottages with breakfast.

Hopefully, this brief list has given you some ideas to go nab that quick last-minute gift or be a hero to book a future gift. Lastly, all the breweries have pint glasses with their logos on sale, so that’s also an easy gift too.
