Lake Street Dive plus Madisen Ward and the Mama Bear at the National

Monday, July 2

Having started out playing the back rooms of Balliceaux (now Flora), Lake Street Dive caught on in Richmond early. The talented, multigenre band has since exploded in popularity around the country, earning die-hard fans of their mostly blue-eyed soul and funk pop with jazz flourishes. Don’t sleep on the opening act: A mother-and-son folk duo from Missouri, Madisen Ward and the Mama Bear are pretty special. Check out their NPR Tiny Desk concert on YouTube. 7:30 p.m. $30-$33. thenationalva.com.
