Looking over shows to preview, my editor spotted one he knew I’d zero in on. “I guess you’re going to write about the Lake Street Dive show, huh?” he said. “Duh,” I replied, without looking at him. “They are the best pop band in the world.” I may sound like a broken record, but Lake Street Dive is the greatest sing-along-at-the-top-of-your lungs group going these days. It’s had a slew of recent television appearances and a sold-out concert tour supporting its brilliant new album, “Bad Self Portraits” on Signature Sounds Recordings. The group embodies everything pop should be: It writes instantly catchy tunes and plays them with an ingratiating wit, humor and style that recall the 1970s FM radio hits of Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney and Fleetwood Mac. This is one show you don’t want to miss. Lake Street Dive plays Thursday, June 12, at the National. Sun Parade opens. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $18-$21. thenationalva.com.
