His album cover depicts a crude country fence reinforced by barbed wire stretching out across a barren field. Singer and songwriter Jonathan Byrd and his record “The Law and the Lonesome” similarly ramble and amble in the dusty plaintiveness of country folk's tumbleweed storytelling. With skilled picking accompanied by fiddle, mandolins and upright bass, Byrd embarks on the kind of lost-highway and dry-prairie compositions reminiscent of Hank Williams and Townes Van Zandt. Byrd is scheduled to perform at In Your Ear Studios as part of JAMInc's concert series on Thursday, Dec. 2, at 6:30 p.m., $15-$20. 320-7067.
