Locals may know Portland-based rock guitarist and songwriter Jerry Joseph from the band Stockholm Syndrome, formed with Richmond native Dave Schools. These fans also are likely aware that seven of Joseph’s songs have been covered by Widespread Panic, the unkillable touring machine popular with well-heeled jam band fans and Fox News hosts. Joseph’s longtime trio, the Jackmormons, isn’t as easy to pigeonhole. The band just released a gritty and eclectic double album, “Happy Book,” featuring cameos from members of the Decemberists and Richmond Fontaine. Influences range from the concise pop rock of Elvis Costello to the shrewd rawness of countrified Dinosaur Jr. You can expect a night of veteran showmanship and emotionally raw and redemptive songwriting; Joseph sobered up from drug addiction, had a child born, and lost a parent during the writing of the album.
