Jason Jones, 16*, has excelled at exhibiting extreme loyalty and commitment to others, regularly spending his summers volunteering for Voices Together, a local camp for autistic children. He was given a simple flyer for the group in 6th grade and has been a loyal volunteer ever since. “Our biggest goal is to help the children with their social skills and help them be incorporated into society,” Jason said.
In addition to his work with children, Jason initiated a fundraiser for the Autism Research Institute. As a part of the fundraising process, Jason organized a silent auction and dinner in October 2009. Jason solicited donations from local businesses and was able to give the Autism Research Institute a large donation of $800.
When he is not volunteering, he is at Henrico High School being a socialite, as most of his free time is spent with good friends.
Jason is also a part of the Partnership for the Future (PFF). PFF is a program accepts select applicants their freshman year of High School. It is a seven week summer session where participants work four days a week with a business sponsor, and the fifth day is spent taking college prep courses, touring college campuses, and performing community service. Their college prep courses are extended throughout the academic year in between summer sessions for four consecutive years.
It is apparent that the PFF program is ideal for an individual like Jason, who has a solid work ethic. Jason works hard to make a difference and serving his community with humility.
