Kaylin Kaupish, 10, Aspiring actress

She likes comedies the most: Her favorite movies are “Shrek,” “Mrs. Doubtfire” and “Chicken Run.” Her favorite actress is Drew Barrymore, who also started young. And like Barrymore, Kaupish has theater in her blood: Her mother majored in it at Virginia Commonwealth University and managed a movie theater.

Kaupish has two sisters (Zoe, 9, and Vivian, 6 months) and a brother (Thomas, 3), and her mother cares for many children as a nanny. “Sometimes I get stressed out,” Kaupish says, of being the oldest of four children. But she still has many opportunities to get out of the house. She’s seen two plays performed by the children’s acting troupe School of the Performing Arts in the Richmond Community (SPARC) and performed in school productions.

Since taking after-school drama classes at her school, William Fox Model Elementary School in the Fan, Kaupish has wanted to be a famous actress. She took two drama classes last year, taking on roles in “Rapunzel” and “Sleeping Ugly.”

“She’s just a kid that has a lot of goals and dreams,” her mom says. “The acting bug has just recently bit her.” —David Clementson
