WHEN: Perennials take center stage
Escape the home-bound winter doldrums by taking part in the class Perennials with Winter Interest offered by Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. In the class, Brent Sandle, owner, Germinating Interest, will explain how hardy perennials can create interest in the winter garden. After a slide-illustrated talk and demonstration, participants will tour the Garden with the instructor to see the winter beauties of Lewis Ginter — dress warmly and be prepared to walk. Two and a half hours will be recorded toward a document of completion in the Garden’s Home Landscape Series.
Two sessions: Wednesday, January 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. or Saturday, January 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The cost of the class is $21 for members of Lewis Ginter and $24 for non-members. For more information, call 262-9887, extension 328.
WHEN: Full Moon Garden Hike
Gardeners know that great gardens come alive at night. Experience the joy of the night garden during a two-hour “Full Moon Garden Hike” through Maymont with Peggy Singlemann, Maymont’s manager of horticulture, on Friday January 17 at 7 p.m. At special stops along the hike, Singlemann will share selected arboretum and horticultural facts.
Fee for the walk is $10 per person; $8 for members of Maymont. Registration is required by January 10. Participants should dress warmly and wear good walking shoes. The tour will begin at the Robins Nature & Visitor Center parking lot at 2201 Shields Lake Drive; free parking is available. To register, call Maymont at 358-7166, ext. 310.
