For people interested in both culture and recycling, the Visual Arts Center’s Art Exchange is a perfect opportunity to spruce up your interior and provide a loving second home for a blown-glass lamp, a soft puppet sculpture, a print or a piece of pottery. At this year’s Exchange, there are 100-plus used art items priced to move by gallery professionals, with finds from under $100 to over $1,000.
“It’s fun because it’s so diverse and shows you people’s varying tastes. There’s really something for everyone,” says the center’s marketing coordinator, Maggi Tinsley. Donations come from individual and corporate collectors and include local art, such as a Lee Hazelgrove vessel, a John Torres painting, a Baxter Perkinson watercolor and a Mary Lou Deal ceramic bowl. Proceeds benefit the Visual Arts Center’s educational and exhibition programs.
The Art Exchange begins on May 16 with an opening reception from 5 to 10 p.m. with refreshments and free admission. The exhibition and sale continue through May 23. Call 353-0094 or visit www.visarts.org.
