Despite our numerous polarizing divisions, we all come together to celebrate the Fourth of July. It’s what we do. We relax, eat a little food and give thanks that the fireworks bursting in the air aren’t real bombs.

In Richmond, there are many places to get your patriotic pride on with your fellow citizens.

At Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, the free daytime festivities include a holiday parade, a performance by Happy Lucky Combo and access to the park’s numerous exhibits.

Across town, you can travel back in time with a reading of the Declaration of Independence at Historic St. John’s Church on Church Hill.

As night rolls in, the masses will descend on The Diamond, Dogwood Dell, Chesterfield County Fairgrounds and Crump Park and Meadow Farm Museum for dazzling displays of nonlethal explosive pyrotechnic devices. And in one case, lasers.
