A culinary cornucopia of celebrity chefs are the line-up of tomorrow’s big Positive Vibe fundraiser. Positive Vibe is a local nonprofit that mentors, trains and helps young adults with diverse abilities to find employment.
Positively Delicious is the inaugural fundraiser from new director, Michele Jones, whose background includes the award-winning restaurants Comfort and Pasture. Jones is coming out the gates in her fundraising career at Positive Vibe with an edible explosion. The event includes food by Jason Alley, wine from award-winning Andre Mack, more food from David Guas, cocktails by Beth Dixon, more food from James Kohler and Mike Epps, even more food from Stephen Gerike and Justin Brunson. The list of talent is so great … I’m too overwhelmed to keep typing and full from just thinking about the event.

Unless you’ve been under a rock, you’ve seen scorching tomato summer shoot into Richmond. There’s a whole week of Hot Tomato Summer dishes from over 75 restaurants in the River City like Penny’s, Cobra Burger and Fat Rabbit starting on July 24.
BUT if you can’t wait till then, get your passes for Tomato Jubilee this Sunday. The event is held at Village Garden’s farmhouse and features 12 different tomato treats for you to gorge on. Snacks like James Beard-nominated Sunny Baweja’s tomato Chaat and Yellow Umbrella’s Greg Comstock and his pickled watermelon and feta gazpacho are the tip of the tomato iceberg. Need more incentives? Warren Haskell from The Kitchen Classroom is reviving his Wandering Biscuit pop-up (one night only) and Leah Branch of The Roosevelt will be joining with chicken mafe. The event benefits RVASCAN and the Holli Fund.

Daniel Harthausen, “The Big Brunch” champion, is back at the pop-ups. Harthausen hounds rejoice! The $300,000 winner of the inaugural brunch show on HBO has announced he is restarting his pop-up serial, Young Mother, beginning with a pop-up on Tuesday, July 18 in collaboration with Lost Letter, the sexy Italian restaurant within a restaurant by the minds behind Longoven.

Two is not a winner and three nobody remembers.
Restaurants, smestaurants. Opening eight restaurants in three (ish) years seems to be child’s play for Mike and Kimberly Lindsey, the duo behind Lindsey Food Group. Richmond Magazine’s Eileen Mellon broke the news this week that the two are also gearing up to open an event space. Details of Red Bird Social are a 5,400 foot event space downtown at 100 North Sixth St.taking over the previous and now closed Crowne Room by the owners of indoor mini golf course and bar Hotel Greene.
Markets, smarkets. Headed onto River Road is a new Stella’s Grocery taking over the shuttered Starbucks location in the corner of the shopping center (Starbuck’s moved across the street) at River Road Shopping Center II. The local prepared food chain and speciality market is owned by the Giavos family and will be the seventh location of Stella’s Grocery. The Giavos’ also own Kuba Kuba, Continental Westhampton, Continental Manchester, Sidewalk Cafe and Little Nickel.
