Halloweee!

If you tried to rent a pony or a moon walk for this weekend, you probably realized there’s a serious crisis in supply. That’s because every church and neighborhood association picked this weekend for their fall festivals, meaning there’ll be plenty of opportunities for pumpkin carving and eating out of paper bowls and being touched by sticky children. Here are a few other options:

Black Cash and The Bad Seeds resurrect Johnny Cash, while Engine 143 and Barstool Heroes stir up other deceased country stars for The Dead Legends Halloween Bonanza at Alley Katz, Oct. 28, 9 p.m.-2 a.m. $8. 643-2816.

The Valentinae Richmond History Center sticks you on a ghost bus for Ghosts, Goosebumps & Graveyard Tales, a tour through downtown Richmond Oct. 29, 2-4:30 p.m. $17-$20. 649-0711.

The Saints and Sinners Festival reminds us that it’s OK to covet angels and demons, as long as they’re sexy, with a big old costume party and music by Four Stories, One Way, Rainmarket and The Hackensaw Boys, on Cary St. between 14th and 17th streets Oct. 28, noon-6 p.m. Free. 304-6870.

Special Ed and the Shortbus makes a point of celebrating strangeness every year with its show at Cary Street Café. This year’s show Oct. 28 at 10 p.m. promises more weird plays, covering everything from the Marriage Amendment to Scrotus, a god of some sort. $15. 353-7445. S
