Guitar Shorty at Capital Ale House

Wednesday, Aug. 25

While his age may make it a bit more difficult too pull off the crazy headstands, back flips and somersaults that were regularly incorporated in his youthful live performances, blues guitarist David Kearney, aka Guitar Shorty, still can wail some serious blues licks. A student of B.B. King cool and Guitar Slim showmanship, Kearney was an entertainer who focused on live performance, which could explain why three singles released in 1959 were the only thing on tape before his first proper album saw the light of day in 1991. It's also worth noting that after marrying into a family named Hendrix, rumor has it that Kearney made quite an impression on a new brother-in-law while playing gigs in Seattle during the 1960s. Dispensing more electric riffs from his latest album, “Bare Knuckle,” Guitar Shorty is scheduled to play at Capital Ale House on Wednesday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. $20-$25.
