Jason Mraz, a Mechanicsville native, prides himself on being a class-A geek. From his pink Polos to his days of cheerleading, he keeps alive his adage: “Hey! It’s cool to be uncool!” His music got off the ground in 2002 with his first album, “Waiting for My Rocket to Come,” but it was the Grammy-nominated second album, “Mr. A-Z,” that wooed fans with its acoustic melodies and pop-rock flare. Best known for his clever lyrics and his mastery of playful vocals, Mraz plans to release “We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.” his third album, in May. Mraz has toured with the Stones and has played in the U.K. and Australia, and now the geek returns home for a show at The National Friday, April 18, at 9 p.m. $25-$27.50. 612-1900.
