Gil Scott-Heron at Toad’s

Gil Scott-Heron isn’t the man he used to be. Years of drug abuse and prison time have taken their toll on the poet, author and singer, but his voice of protest and celebration hasn’t been silenced. After more than 10 albums blending jazz and soul music with uplifting poetry, social commentary and self-criticism, the 59-year-old former child prodigy still has a something to say. The voice of “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” and “The Bottle” comes to Toad’s Place July 2 at 7 p.m. Plunky & Oneness opens. $25. 648-TOAD.
