Despite its Caribbean locale and culture, the country of Haiti has the unfortunate title of being the poorest state in the Western Hemisphere. Eighty percent of its population lives under the poverty line, with 54 percent in abject poverty. Even as two-thirds of all Haitians depend on the agricultural sector to support themselves, the region also has one of the highest rates of malnutrition. While there's only so much the average American can do to combat the area's spread of disease, violence and governmental instability, raising money for basic food and supplies is definitely within one's capability. In an effort to help the children of Ouaniminthe, Haiti, Capital Ale House in cooperation with Commercial Taphouse presents Foodstock 2, a special benefit concert for the construction of food warehouses. Featuring music by the Bigs, Moosa, Blue Light District and True Silver, the charity show is at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5. $12. 780-2537. — Mike Hilleary
