Taking the name of an old Gretsch bass drum pedal, Floating Action is the pseudonymed project of North Carolina multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Seth Kauffman. Establishing a small name for himself in the late ’90s leading the Choosy Beggars, Kaufman has since ventured out on his own, implementing his ramshackle, lo-fi aesthetic with all kinds of worldly rhythms and influences. Kauffman wrote and recorded the songs for his latest album, “Desert Etiquette,” in a span of 96 hours. And the languid, groovy tunes crackle under their vintage warmth. Opening for Dr. Dog, Floating Action is scheduled to perform at the National on Thursday, April 7, at 7 p.m. $18-$22.
