Alt rockers Finger Eleven have tread a fine line over the years over what they want their musical identity to be. During the band's first few years, after winning a band search contest on local radio and wisely changing the name from Rainbow Butt Monkeys, the native Canadians seemed to find comfort belting out the kind of aggressively brooding grunge befitting Scott Wieland and the Stone Temple Pilots. Scoring a Top 40 hit with the acoustically driven ballad “One Thing” in 2000, Finger Eleven has since attempted a more nuanced approach to its template, replacing dark power chords for elements of dance grooves, anthem-rising hooks, even outright pop. Promoting the most recent album, “Life Turns Electric,” Finger Eleven is scheduled to perform at the National headlining 102.1 the X's Not So Silent Night with My Darkest Days, on Thursday, Dec. 9, at 6:30 p.m.
