After listening for months to candidates, today it’s your turn to be heard at the ballot box.
All of Virginia is going to the polls to choose a governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and members of the Virginia House of Delegates. Localities also will be electing sheriffs, treasurers and other local constitutional officers.
Plenty of time to vote: Polls are open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you’re in line at 7 p.m., you’re allowed to vote.
A valid photo ID is required: Federal, state and in-state local government-issued photo IDs are fine. These include Virginia driver’s licenses, employee or military cards and passports. Photo IDs issued by private employers also are allowed, as are student IDs from in-state colleges, universities or high schools. Credit card photos and private organization cards aren’t acceptable.
If you don’t have a valid photo ID, go to your city or county’s election office today to get one. Or vote with a provisional ballot. You’ll have until noon Monday to bring in a valid photo ID and your provisional ballot will be added to those already counted.
Am I eligible to vote? Anyone can check at the Virginia Department of Elections website.
