Zuill Bailey, cello

February 28 @ 7:30 pm

$10 – $50

Widely considered one of the premiere cellists in the world, Zuill Bailey is a Grammy Award winner and internationally renowned soloist, recitalist, artistic director, and teacher. Bailey’s music is a testament to the power of the cello to convey the full range of human emotion, from joy and exuberance to sorrow and longing. The intimate acoustics of Camp Concert Hall enhance the warmth of the solo cello, with lush piano accompaniment by Natasha Paremski.

A consummate concerto soloist, Zuill Bailey has been featured with symphony orchestras worldwide. He has collaborated with such conductors as Itzhak Perlman, Alan Gilbert, Andrew Litton, Neeme Jarvi, and Giancarlo, among many others.

Bailey was named the 2014 Johns Hopkins University Distinguished Alumni and was awarded the Classical Recording Foundation Award for 2006 and 2007 for his recordings of Beethoven’s complete works for cello and piano. In celebration of his recordings and appearances, Kalmus Music Masters has released Zuill Bailey Performance Editions, encompassing the core repertoire of cello literature.

Bailey received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the Peabody Conservatory and the Juilliard School. He performs on a 1693 Matteo Gofriller cello which was formerly owned by Mischa Schneider of the Budapest String Quartet.

Program (subject to change):
Sergei Rachmaninoff – Sonata in G minor for cello and piano, Op. 19
Vocalise, Op. 34 No. 14.
