River City Sing: A Community Song Circle | Songs for Mystery

River City Sing is a new monthly song circle* meeting at Living Water Community Center! Our theme this month is “Songs for the Solstice”

🎆New Year’s resolutions… have you ever felt like it’s tough to start a new routine in the middle of the winter? Same. In the world around us, the trees are bare, many animals are hibernating, and nature signals that this is the time for rest. In the darkness of the season, much can seem mysterious. So, maybe the invitation is to gather warmth and practice ease with ourselves and others.

💜In January, we’ll sing songs for Mystery, as we wonder and dream about what we need and how we want to be.

*A song circle isn’t a chorus or choir, but a group of folks singing together. No musical/music-reading experience necessary!

Host Kelley Doyle will share songs by beginning with their lyrics, then teaching the songs with drum or a cappella (without instruments) through call-and-echo, gradually building as we go. We repeat them several times to let the words and sound sink in. They focus on themes of love, kinship with the Earth, and self-compassion — little pocket songs we carry to encourage and comfort ourselves and one another.
