Richmond, VA – Join Richmond Really Sews! at Richmond Frocktails 2024 on Saturday, Nov 2, 2024 at 6:30 pm in Richmond, Virginia for an incredible, family-friendly evening of fashion and fun at this exciting fashion show, followed by a celebration for sewists, friends and guests!
Frocktails is an international fashion phenomenon featuring an inspiring fashion show of clothing created by diverse, local sewists and modeled by… the sewists themselves! Members of the group Richmond Really Sews! come together for Richmond Frocktails to celebrate the art of sewing – couture clothing, crafty creations, and modern mending which will all be showcased during this celebration of sewists. This is the third year that Richmond Really Sews! has presented a Frocktails fashion show and celebration and each year gets better and better.
Frocktails is the Richmond Really Sews! annual fundraiser and all profits raised are used to provide free sewing education, free materials for classes, and maintaining equipment in our free sewing center. Richmond Really Sews! is able to provide yearly programming to the sewing community for free because of your support. Non-Profit Connection is the fiscal sponsor of all-volunteer Richmond Really Sews! EIN: 27-2291583 Any additional money donated will benefit Richmond Really Sews! Bidding on handmade, one-of-a-kind items from Richmond really sews members in addition to items sourced from community donations at the silent auction at Richmond Frocktails 2024 is another way to support Richmond Really Sews!
While the theme of this year’s Richmond Frocktails is inspired by the movie Grand Budapest Hotel, you can expect sewists modeling their creations to take a wide interpretation on that vision. Get ready to be dazzled by beautiful designs as talented local sewists – from beginners to professionals – showcase their stunning creations on the runway. First drink (beer, wine, and NA drinks) and food (while supplies last) are included in the ticket price. Additional drinks and food available for purchase.
Whether you’re a passionate sewist, a fashion enthusiast, or simply looking for a fabulous night out, Frocktails is perfect for you! Immerse yourself in the world of fashion and creativity surrounded by like-minded individuals who share your love for sewing and creativity. Witness the magic unfold as models of all ages – including children – strut down the runway, showcasing unique and innovative designs. From glamorous evening gowns to edgy streetwear, this fashion show promises to inspire and captivate.
After the fashion show, the celebration continues! Mingle with sewists and friends, exchange ideas, and share your passion for sewing and building the community. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with others who share your interests and expand your network in the sewing community. Don’t miss out on this unforgettable event! Mark your calendars and get ready for an evening of style, creativity, and celebration.
Richmond Really Sews! is a place where sewists in Richmond unite, as well as share ideas for sewing projects, bring questions, provide answers to questions, share old and new patterns (for exchange or for sale), provide extra fabric from their stashes (for exchange or for sale), alert each other to fabric and pattern sales, and share great YouTube vlogs, and fantastic online fabric sites, etc. Richmond Really Sews! has a common thread of friendship and love of sewing and creating. The motto of Richmond Really Sews! is: “We come together in friendship and sew.”
Richmond Really Sews! was founded by Karen Keech Swerling, a veteran Hollywood costume designer and fashion professor. She started Richmond Really Sews! after sewing alone all through the COVID 19 pandemic. Keech Swerling asked on Nextdoor “Does anybody in Richmond sew? I’m a lonely sewist.” And she got a thousand responses.
