Established in 1917 as a rural garden cemetery park, this landscape became overgrown and fell into disrepair as families moved away or died out. Witness the miraculous transformation begun in 2020, when Marvin Harris, the county of Henrico, and private donors joined together to restore this very important historic African American burying ground. Join us as we stroll the restored grounds to honor these community leaders and heroes including: Arthur Ashe, John Jasper, William Washington Browne, Charles Thaddeus Russell, Albert Norrell, Leslie Garland Bolling, Mary Richards Bowser, Zenolbia Gilpin, Thomas Morris Crump, and patriots of the American armed services.
