Emanuel Ax, piano

Masterful pianist Emanuel Ax’s inspired imagination is accompanied by clean articulation and effortless virtuosity. His command of the piano fills the room with a range of elegant, powerful, and precise movements. In this performance, sponsored in partnership with the UR Department of Music, audiences will be delighted and inspired by hearing Schoenberg, Beethoven, and Webern in Modlin’s intimate Camp Concert Hall.

In conjunction with the UR Department of Music, Emanuel Ax will be offering a master class on Thursday, April 4, 2024 in the Camp Concert Hall (time TBD). The class is open to the public.

Born to Polish parents in Ukraine, Emanuel Ax moved to Winnipeg, Canada, with his family when he was a young boy. Mr. Ax made his New York debut in the Young Concert Artists Series and in 1974 won the first Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Tel Aviv. He has received Grammy Awards for the second and third volumes of his cycle of Haydn’s piano sonatas.

Ax is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He holds honorary doctorates of music from Skidmore College, New England Conservatory of Music, Yale University, and Columbia University.
