This 2024 documentary about Frida Kahlo is a raw and magical journey into the life of the iconic artist. Kahlo’s own words—from diaries, letters, essays, and interviews—tell her story. The film is vividly brought to life with lyrical animation inspired by her unforgettable artwork. Join us for a special screening in honor of VMFA’s exhibition Frida: Beyond the Myth. Director Carla Gutiérrez will introduce and discuss her film, which won the J. Oppenheim Editing Award at the Sundance Film Festival. (87 mins; rated R; portions in Spanish with English subtitles)
