Danielle Wiebe-Burke Faculty Viola Recital

February 19 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
$14

VCUarts Music presents a viola recital by Adjunct Professor of Viola Danielle Wiebe-Burke on Thursday, February 19 at 7:00pm in the Singleton Center for the Performing Arts (922 Park Avenue, Richmond, VA 23220).

Praised for playing that is “highly idiomatic, richly varied,” Mexican-Canadian violist Danielle Wiebe-Burke is an internationally recognized performer and educator. A prizewinning finalist in the Sphinx Competition and a quarter-finalist in the Primrose International Viola Competition, she has performed in major halls across the U.S. and Europe, including Severance Hall, Woolsey Hall, and Zipper Hall. Her recordings have received international acclaim, with Gramophone praising her premiere of Hannah Lash’s Requiem.

An avid explorer of new musical forms and of the interstates that link the classical tradition to popular idioms, Danielle has premiered the work of contemporary composers such as Michael Gilbertson, Ethan Braun, and Polina Nazaykinskaya. In other contexts, she has performed on NPR’s Tiny Desk with Faye Webster and on World Café with regular collaborators, the minimalist folk duo Lowland Hum. A student of Kim Kashkashian at the New England Conservatory and Ettore Causa at Yale University, where she received her doctorate, Danielle enjoys bringing music to young artists.
