Rituals have been part of art and the human need for “making” for thousands of years, from sacred to secular uses. In modern and contemporary art, though, rituals continue to serve these purposes while also becoming more connected to the mundane and habitual aspects of human life. In this guided experience, we’ll examine visuals and videos of artworks, chat about our thoughts and observations, and ask the question, “what in my everyday life could be fodder for art making?” As time permits, we’ll dream up some potential art projects that could answer that question, as well as how to “make” something through that practice. Participants are encouraged to bring sketchbooks and journals for envisioning with.
